Towels between 400 and 500 GSM are lightweight and dry rapidly. Therefore, they suit environments where quick turnover is essential. In addition, they still feel soft and premium against treated skin.

Waffle weave bathrobes have a GSM of around 200 to 280. As a result, they provide comfort without excessive bulk. Furthermore, the textured surface creates air pockets that let heat and moisture escape. This makes them ideal for guests moving between steam rooms, treatment beds, and relaxation lounges.

For treatment table linen specifically flat sheets and face cradle covers the requirements shift again. These pieces need to be:

• Lightweight at 130 to 180 GSM: so they drape smoothly over the body
• Tightly woven: to resist oil penetration into the fibre
• Soft against skin: particularly for guests with sensitive or post-treatment skin
• Durable: to survive daily high-temperature commercial washing

Standard hotel flat sheets are too heavy for this application. Moreover, they absorb oils quickly and look worn within weeks of regular spa use.

The Oil Problem Most Buyers Miss

This specification detail separates experienced spa linen buyers from first-time ones.

Massage oils for example, coconut, almond, and jojoba do not wash out of standard hotel fabric cleanly. Over time, furthermore, oil residue builds up in the fibres. As a result, it reduces absorbency, creates odour, and leaves staining that makes linen look old far too early.

The solution is not to wash harder. Instead, choose the right fabric from the start.

• White or light ivory only: shows staining clearly so pieces leave rotation before guests notice
• Avoid microfibre for treatment linen: because it absorbs oils deeply and becomes almost impossible to clean properly

In addition, high-temperature wash cycles with proper chemical balance are now the industry standard for spa environments in 2026. Standard light-commercial cycles do not sanitise deeply enough. Consequently, guests who notice a musty towel will not return and they will say so publicly.

Colour Coding: More Important in Spas Than in Hotels

In a hotel, linen is almost universally white. However, spas have a more complex linen flow.
